Our Advisory Board
Anchored in Kindness Foundation is guided by an advisory board of individuals who believe in the foundation’s mission and help support its growth and future initiatives.
The board provides guidance as the foundation develops scholarships, caregiver support efforts, acts of kindness initiatives, and community programs.
Additional advisory board members will be announced as the foundation continues to grow.
About the Founder
Anchored in Kindness Foundation was founded by Jessica Lino Berkowitz Valente in honor of her wife, Tara.
After walking beside Tara through her illness as both her partner and caregiver, Jessica created the foundation to reflect the kindness, connection, and support that defined Tara’s life and the community that surrounded them throughout that journey.
How Our Organization Works
Anchored in Kindness Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on charitable and educational initiatives inspired by Tara’s legacy.
The foundation aims to support caregivers and families facing hardship, recognize students who lead with kindness and service, and create programs that encourage meaningful community connection and involvement.
As the organization grows, additional initiatives and partnerships will continue to develop in support of its mission.

The Anchor
The anchor represents strength and stability during life’s storms. Just as an anchor steadies a ship in rough waters, kindness and compassion can help ground us during life’s most difficult moments.
The Ocean
The ocean represents life itself — sometimes calm, sometimes stormy. Through kindness, support, and compassion, we can help anchor one another through whatever waters we face.
Interlocking Pinkies
The interlocking pinkies represent connection and the promise to hold on to one another. Inspired by the way sea otters hold pinkies while they sleep so they don’t drift apart, this symbol reflects the bond Tara and Jessica shared and the belief that love and kindness keep us anchored to one another.
The Heart
The heart symbolizes love and compassion — the qualities that defined Tara’s life and the way she cared for the people around her.
